Leah Sohotra is an amazing singer and brilliant songwriter who studied jazz vocals in Vermont and now lives in Cork City.Exploring themes of decolonization, collective trauma, and grief through a deep connection with nature and its role in folklore, she weaves an ecofeminist narrative of resilience with a focus on female agency.Leah Sohotra’s singles air on RTÉ and BBC Radio and many other stations, nationally and internationally, and her album Breaded Crickets received great reviews.
Paul Sexton, in PROG magazine, compared her work to that of Pulitzer Prize winner Rhiannon Giddens, which she feels extremely humbled by: “…enigmatic shifts in gear move between a strumming stomp and a pretty harp and string-laden interludes. Single and album are decorated by her unusual, gospel-Americana tones, reminiscent of that genre’s Rhiannon Giddens.”

Martin Leahy is a multi-instrumentalist, producer, and songwriter who has worked with some of Ireland’s greatest musicians. In recent years, he’s gained national and international attention for his songwriting and activism, particularly his song “Everyone Should Have A Home”, which has become a rallying cry for housing justice.
“The guy who gave the crisis a soundtrack” The Guardian
He also has written a number of songs in solidarity with the people of Palestine and performs weekly at the Cork City protests. His song “Palestine” has been shared multiple times including by Al Jazeera, Middle East Eye and by the activist and musician Lowkey. Both Leah Sohotra and Martin Leahy can be found on Bandcamp.

Theatre for Solidarity: “From Eden” Comes to Bandon for Gaza
As part of the vital West Cork for Gaza Weekend, Bandon Town Hall is proud to host a Kilmeen Drama Group for a special performance of the critically acclaimed Irish play, “From Eden” by Stephen Jones, on Saturday, November 29th at 8pm.
Tickets: €10 at the door.
This is a wonderful opportunity for the Bandon community to support a crucial humanitarian cause while enjoying a piece of sharp, witty, and moving contemporary theatre.
About the Play: “From Eden”
“From Eden” is a compact, two-hander play that has been lauded by critics for its tender script and realistic dialogue. The setting is simple but evocative: a dilapidated bathroom at a New Year’s Eve party. This is where two strangers, Alan and Eva, find themselves locked together while the raucous celebrations continue outside.
Alan is shy and reserved, while Eva is his seemingly more fiery and outspoken opposite. As the night wears on and their initial awkwardness melts away, they begin to confess glimpses of their past and the inner conflicts that led them to seek refuge away from the forced gaiety of the party.
The play is much more than a simple “opposites attract” story. It is a deeply honest exploration of loneliness, isolation, and the desperate human need for genuine connection. Named after the biblical location, the bathroom itself becomes a strange, temporary “Eden”—a safe, liminal space where two “lost souls” can be brutally honest, finding a sliver of hope and mutual understanding before they must face the outside world again. The comedy and tenderness of their crackling interchange make for a truly captivating piece of drama.
The Local Production
We are delighted to see this award-winning play brought to life by local talent:
- Cast: Tomas White and Laura Connolly
- Directed by: Denis O’Donovan
