Mission Statement:
West Cork for Gaza’s mission statement says, ‘Its mission is to speak as one voice through the unity of community and in the spirit of performance and participation, to support the victims of famine and violence in Gaza and to alleviate the unimaginable suffering’.

What is the West Cork for Gaza weekend?
West Cork for Gaza is an amalgamation of events all over the West Cork region that will be held from November 28th-30th in aid of charities that assist famine relief, medical needs, and other essential services needed to lessen the suffering of those who have been victims of what the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry has now defined as ‘genocide’. It also aims to speak as a region, to voice people’s distress over the genocide.

Who are West Cork for Gaza?
Since the conflict began, it quickly emerged that innocent men women and children in the enclave of Gaza were bearing the heaviest burden. Individuals and organisations all over West Cork, indeed Ireland, have been consistently putting on events, donating, protesting, for over two years. West Cork for Gaza is simply a platform for all concerned people, participants and audiences, to come out together as one voice throughout West Cork and to move jointly, through the arts and participation, to show their support en masse for those who have suffered.

Who is participating and where?

A whole range of towns across West Cork is hosting an eclectic range of disciplines and performers, such as musicians, dramatists, writers, poets, historians, comedians, even some sporting events, all in aid of Gaza. Talks, walks, music, poetry, drama and much more will take place from November 28th-30th (please look at the timetable for a few that will begin earlier in the week). Click on the town in the menu to see each event, venue, time and date.

Can I donate and where is the money going?

Yes, you can donate. Most events will take donations at the door and there are a few ticketed events. Since the genocide began over two years ago 64,000 people have died and 90 percent of Gaza has been destroyed and damaged. Hygiene and sanitary systems have long broken down, education and mental health have been ruined. This will have repercussions on generations of Palestinians. Each event organiser will choose a charity of their choice as the needs in Gaza are huge and varied. West Cork for Gaza are not prescribing particular charities but encourage event organisers to target famine relief, medical aid, education and mental health.  Please enquire with each event to see where your donation will go.

Can I do something?

The simple answer is, yes. West Cork for Gaza is merely the banner which so many good people and groups are flying under for the weekend of November 28th-30th. Many groups and individuals have been putting on events for Gaza for a long time. If you want to do something, either contact us through our email address barthharrington@gmail.com or speak to someone within your community. Once you let us know, we will put your event online and promote it on social media.
